Project Work
The Political and Press Section of the British Embassy Tbilisi oversees locally implemented project work. The UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) will be closing its Georgia office at the end of 2008, but will continue to support Georgia through multilateral organisations such as the European Union (EU). All British Embassy project work has to underpin our objectives. We utilise three UK Government funds:
- the Conflict Prevention Pool (CPP). This fund supports conflict resolution activities in both Georgia and the wider South Caucasus. Projects can be implemented either bilaterally or a regional basis.
- the Strategic Programme Fund (Reuniting Europe) (SPF). Supports stable institutions guaranteeing democracy, the rule of law, human rights and the respect for and protection of minorities. In addition, the fund aims to promote competitive, functioning market economies. Projects can be implemented either bilaterally or a regional basis.
- the Bilateral Programme Budget (BPB). This is fund is held locally by the British Embassy Tbilisi. This fund can be accessed quickly, and is generally used for smaller scale projects.
The British Embassy also has a number of scholarship schemes for post-graduates. The British Council in Georgia oversees the administration of these schemes. Further information on UK Government funding opportunities can be found on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website.
