Disabled Access
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office and this Embassy are keen to ensure that their buildings and services are fully accessible to disabled members of the public. Wherever possible, we have made our buildings and services accessible. Sometimes however, this is not possible due to security or other restrictions. However, we will always endeavour to provide a service or access to a building in an alternative way to ensure equality of access for disabled people. To assist disabled visitors, we have set out below details of disabled access at this Embassy. We hope this information is helpful.
General physical access
Parking facilities:
On street parking only in and around Freedom Square. *
Main Entrance:
To GMT Plaza building lobby & lifts clear and unobstructed
To the Embassy's lobbies is via security detector arches. *
Staircases
Internal staircases are not accessible to the general public except in
emergencies
Lifts:
There is public access including for wheelchair users to the Embassy's
lobbies on the 5th floor. Lift access to floors six & seven can be arranged.
Toilets:
There are toilets on floors five and six which are accessible to and
adapted for wheelchair-users and those with limited physical mobility
Public Areas
There are 2 Public service counters for Visa or Consular customers at
standard desk height and 1 at wheelchair height.
Floor coverings
Floors are carpeted in general and tiled in sanitary areas and are safe and even;
Handrails
Installed only in limited mobility toilets and internal staircases.
Doors
Most doors and doorways should be accessible to all users but the main
entrances on the fifth floor from the Embassy's Reception to the Offices
and exhibition areas are of restricted width for security reasons. *,
Lighting
There is good lighting throughout the Embassy
Emergency/evacuation
Help alarms and arrangements for assisting those with limited physical mobility in case of emergency/evacuation;
Access for visually impaired visitors
Signs are in standard text. However, there are staff at the building lift lobby, the Embassy's lift lobby as well as in the Consular/Visa office and main reception who would be pleased to assist.
Guide dogs are welcome in Public Areas. *
Access for Deaf/hard of hearing visitors
Hearing loops or alternative sound amplification equipment is installed at customer service points in the Consular/Visa office and the main reception.
